Job Summary

North Anna Power Station in Mineral, VA is seeking a Nuclear Chemistry Technician T3 or fully qualified Nuclear Chemistry Technician.

The position will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Nuclear Chemistry Tech:

This is the fully qualified level.

  • Independently performs chemical analyses on gases, fluids and solids in and around the nuclear power station.

  • Independently collect and perform chemical analyses on gases, liquids and solids from process streams throughout the plant.

  • Operate a variety of chemical test and analytical equipment including spectrophotometers, titration devices, ion chromatographs, gas chromatographs, atomic absorption and emission spectrometers, pH meters and conductivity cells.

  • Maintain, calibrate, standardize, and perform preventative maintenance on chemistry bench-top and inline instrumentation and equipment.

  • May serve as the shift lead to provide the requisite level of technical expertise to less experienced technicians.

  • Assist in the training and qualification of students enrolled in the Chemistry Technician Training program.

  • Perform administrative duties in support of department operations, including procedure review and development, periodic test scheduling, and management reporting.

  • Respond to a variety of system and process alarms, including turbine or reactor trip, and main condenser impurity ingress.

  • Actively support all elements of the laboratory quality control and quality assurance program and regulatory inspections.

  • Perform special projects and studies as designated by laboratory supervision and participate in self-assessments and Training Review Board meetings.

  • Participate in the station s emergency response organization.

  • Perform work activities with other station departments, vendors and contractors.

  • Must be able to work a rotating shift schedule.

  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Nuclear Chemistry Tech T3:

  • Collection of samples from primary and secondary plant system.

  • Performs tests on samples to determine the presence and activity levels of radiation and various gases, acids, and metals to ensure proper chemistry is maintained to prevent corrosion of plant systems and technical specification violations.

  • Collect water samples from various plant systems, including those in high radiation areas, for necessary analyses.

  • Operate and maintain the on-line chemical monitoring system.

  • Add chemicals to plant systems in order to maintain plant system integrity.

  • Track and enter data analysis information into the mainframe computer.

  • Maintain and calibrate data recording devices.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Nuclear Chemistry Tech:

  • Associates in Chemistry (or related) with a minimum of 5 years directly related experience.

  • Naval Nuclear experience as an ELT which includes successful completion of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion training program and 4 years of hands on fleet experience will be considered.

  • Completion of Chemistry Technician Training Program.

  • Qualified as a shift-qualified chemistry technician.

  • Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above.

Nuclear Chemistry Tech T3:

  • Associates in Chemistry (or related) with a minimum of 3 years related experience.

  • Naval Nuclear experience as an ELT which includes successful completion of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion training program and 4 years of hands on fleet experience will be considered.

  • An ability to collect samples and perform chemical analyses within the framework of the chemistry technician training program.

  • Designation as will be approved by Chemistry management, and will be based upon an individuals sustained, high level of performance, and the needs of the department.

  • Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above.

Education Requirements

Associate Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education

Must meet applicable location specific minimum education, experience and training requirements specified by the American National Standard Industrial (ANSI) for the qualification and training of nuclear.
