Job Description
Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.
Basic Qualifications
0 Years with Bachelors in Science- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Preferred Qualifications
This position is for an entry level structural engineer in the A1B Propulsion Plant Planning Yard (PPPY; Department E70) supporting the construction, maintenance, lifting/handling, overhaul and modernization of CVN78 Class aircraft carriers. The successful applicant should have a good understanding of strength and materials/structural analysis, general problem solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills and an interest in the construction and maintenance of naval reactor plants. Experience and demonstrated knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) methods is a plus.
A BS in Civil/Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Nuclear Engineering is preferred. ?
