Job Description

Our team - Modern Life Verticals incudes Microsoft’s premier communications apps – Teams for consumers; Skype; GroupMe, and Teams for EDU. We are looking for a Chief of Staff who will work closely with our leadership team to drive:

  • Product and strategy reviews.

  • The rhythm of the business (RoB).

  • Team and executive communications (external and internal).

  • Organizational health.

  • Budget management.

You will partner closely with the CVP to shape the mission of the team, lead and contribute to special projects, and continue to foster a great inclusive culture on the team.

Responsibilities

  • Business Process: Lead, coordinate and continually improve our RoB, providing insight and advice to the leadership team around operational excellence, headcount, resource and fiscal planning, working with Finance and HR organizations.

  • Running our teams: Partner with the LT to manage the overall group strategy decisions and assist in implementing policies and procedures while focusing in maximizing the effectiveness of the CVP, work with cross-division and cross-company/teams to ensure that we can deliver our communications apps on time. Make our team fun and productive organizing Demo days, Hackathons, morale events, etc…

  • Communications: Seek out and arrange several forms of communications, e.g. CVP vision statements; internal bi-weekly syncs; All-Hands; MPRs; meetings with partner teams. Help our CVP balancing priorities, communicate effectively, participate in the most relevant meetings, helping him connect with the team.

  • Team Development: Ensure that we have the right organization; ensure that we have amazing people; and ensure that we have a great, inclusive team. The metrics: MSPoll, retention, team output and delivery.

  • In order to develop and maintain intimacy with remote teams, travel is required (5 - 10% outside US).

Qualifications

Basic Qualification:

  • At least 5 years of related experience in areas which include: communications and/or marketing, Engineering, Program/Project management, business development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to synthesize, prioritize, rationalizing and simplifying the many competing requirements, all with an exceptional attention to the details.

  • Ability to follow through on other people’s commitments, meetings decisions, etc. (especially within the LT), and not just your own.

  • Experience successfully managing consumer products and/or messaging apps, with both technical and business acumen.

  • Knowledge and passion for technology and products – including those external to Microsoft to build opportunities in our own products.

  • Inclusive and collaborative – driving teamwork and cross-team alignment.

  • Strong partner relationship management skills, with proven ability to influence for impact.

  • Excellent communication skills along with the ability to build compelling internal/external presentations and comprehensive business review materials.

  • Problem solving mentality leveraging internal and/or external resources, conflict resolution, and follow through with partners.

  • Ability to drive and collect feedback from peers and partners, interpret and prioritize findings, communicate insights and recommendations at executive level.
